About Questions

Email reference service allows you to ask basic questions electronically and to receive answers quickly.

This includes questions about library holdings and services that can be answered quickly online (for example, telephone numbers, addresses, verification of titles, general descriptions of holdings, suggested search strategies, or hints for searching electronic databases.)

Questions should include some background, possible keywords for searching, and other details on the question.

For more in-depth research questions, please talk to us in person at the reference desk, by telephone at (651) 962-4664, or make an appointment with a librarian in your subject area.

Question Handling

The email reference account is checked daily, Monday through Friday. Answers or follow-up questions (in case we need to clarify your question) will be sent within 24 to 48 hours, Monday through Friday.

Depending on the nature of your question, it may be referred to the appropriate subject specialist, to Special Collections or the Music Resource Center, or to other library/university departments or agencies.
